The 2025 RCU Annual Conference agenda is packed with content-rich sessions providing the latest data and insights surrounding Utah’s recycling and sustainability industry.

8:15 am – Intro to RCU Conference: Beau Peck, RCU President
8:25 am – “Welcome to Spanish Fork: Perspectives on Utah’s Growth City”– The Honorable Mike Mendenhall, Mayor Spanish Fork.
8:30 am – “Sustainability World Wide” – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has been a leader in sustainability through the Church’s efforts to be good “stewards of our earth.” Representatives from the church will talk about their programs and insights in sustainability and recycling (confirmed).
9:10 am – “Cement Kiln Processing Options” – Atif Asif, Ash Grove Cement. Sapphire Americas has recently established a new processing center in Magna. They will showcase the new operation and provide information on those hard to recycler materials
9:30 am – “MRF Tech: The Latest in Material Recovery Facility Technology” – Thomas Jongert, General Manager at Rocky Mountain Recycling will present the latest in MRF technology as they prepare to reinvest in an entirely new line at RMR.
9:55 am – Break and Networking
10:15 am – “DEQ UPdate: Recycling Reports and Utah’s Future” – Utah Recycler of the Year Awardee, Dr. Stevie Norcross and Kelly Shaw will share the latest results of DEQ’s report on glass recycling in Utah (confirmed).
11:00 am – RCU Board Elections/ RCU Board President Change
11:30 am – Utah Recycler of the Year Awards/ Presentation & Utah Recycling Hall of Fame Inductee: Don Lewon, Utah Metal Works

1:15 pm – “RCU Recycling Tours: Looking Back and Looking Forward” – Beau Peck, RCU President will showcase this past year, RCU implementd quarterly tours of facilities and organizations that are involved in recycling. We’ll take a look at some of the highlights this past year and what you can expect for next year’s upcoming tours.
1:30 pm – “Vision to Virtual” – Nick Patterson, Engineer, will present the design process, latest features, and future of transfer stations as a part of the waste management process. Highlighting what went in to the current operation of one of the most technologically advanced transfer stations in Utah and the entire west, the Dry Creek Transfer Station. (invited)
2:00 pm – “Manufacturing and Closing the Loop?” – Various manufacturers including Intermountain Absorbents and others will discuss lessons learned and best practices in closing the recycling loop by using recycled feedstocks in the manufacturing process.
2:30 pm – “Concluding Keynote “Walking with Giants” – Doug Wing, /Author and Presentor Doug Wing will share insights and time honored principles from his published book, “Giant Success.”
