Business and industry leaders, nonprofit organizations, volunteers, involved citizens, municipalities, teachers, and elected officials find the informative sessions, workshops, speakers, tours, and networking very useful. Highlights always include current trends, recycling equipment and manufactured products, markets, and educational tools. Discount rates are available for RCU members.
In 1996, the Utah Legislature created the Utah Recycling Market Development Zone Program which focuses on recycling as an economic development tool. The Zone assist businesses that collect, process, distribute, or use recycled materials in their manufacturing operations, or compost. Eligible recycling businesses that are located in designated Recycling Market Development Zones qualify for tax credits. RCU assists businesses and communities in setting up this program. This guide is designed to help you find recycling opportunities in your area. The data lists common recyclable materials such as newspaper, cardboard, aluminum, steel, plastics, glass, yard waste, and scrap metals. For drop-off sites for more unusual materials, go to Unusual Materials. RCU is the statewide coordinator for ARD in Utah. ARD is a national event held each year on November 15th that educates the public on the importance of recycling and buying recycled products. Events are featured in more than forty states and Americans pledge every fall to recycle and buy recycled-content products. ARD reaches millions across the country with the message that recycling works. RCU is an excellent source to help answer your recycling questions by referring you to individuals and organizations that can provide indepth information. Consultations to assist in setting up or improving recycling programs are also available. Ongoing workshops are held with topics on recycling, composting, source reduction, and resource efficiency. The "Recycler of the Year" awards are presented at RCU's annual conference and trade show. This award is named in honor of Thomas A. Martin, former CAO of Provo City and founder of RCU.
