Kimberly Nelson joined the ABC 4 news team in January 2012. Originally from Southern California, she’s spent the last six years working in the Midwest and now can’t wait to experience all the Beehive State has to offer.
Kimberly comes to Salt Lake City from Rockford, Illinois where she produced and anchored the number-one rated Fox39 News at Nine. Some of the most memorable stories Kimberly covered included the criminal investigation of former Governor Rod Blagojevich, the Rockford police shooting death of Mark Barmore, the devastating floods of 2006 and 2007, and the cold case murder of Mary Jane Reed.
On the lighter side, Kimberly’s career highlights include flying with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and sitting down with Jerry Springer. She was awarded the Rockford Chamber of Commerce’s “40 Leaders under 40 Award,” in 2010 for her volunteer work in the Rockford community.
Kimberly received her Bachelor's of Science in Journalism from San Diego State University, where she graduated with honors. She also spent a year at Uppsala University in Sweden studying International Communications. She started her career in San Diego where she was an associate producer for NBC 7/39 and a news writer at KUSI-TV.
In her free time, Kimberly enjoys reading a good book, getting outdoors, singing and swimming. She also enjoys giving back to her community. She’s been a board member for the Northern Illinois March of Dimes and sat on the Board of Commissioners for Rockford’s Swedish Historical Society. An avid traveler, Kimberly can't wait for her next trip back to Europe.
